Know exactly what’s inside your concrete before you cut, core, or drill.
Concrete structures often hide critical elements that can’t be seen from the surface. Striking a post-tension cable, electrical conduit, or embedded utility can cause major damage, safety risks, and costly delays.
Our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) service gives you the information you need to work safely and confidently.
Coastal Scanning & Compliance delivers concrete scanning that is:
- Non-destructive - no damage to the concrete
- Accurate and detailed - millimetre-level readings
- Fast and efficient - minimal disruption to site workflow
- Essential for safe operations - prevents structural and service strikes
- Versatile - suitable for construction, renovation, and structural assessment projects of all sizes

GPR Concrete Scanning
GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) uses high-frequency electromagnetic pulses to penetrate concrete and produce a detailed picture of what lies below the surface.
This allows us to detect objects, utilities, and structural elements with millimetre-level accuracy without drilling, cutting, or removing material.
Our equipment can scan through slabs of various thicknesses and provide clear readings even in complex or reinforced structures.
What We Can Detect
Our concrete scanning service identifies a wide range of embedded features and anomalies, including:
- Reinforcing steel (rebar) – position and depth
- Post-tension cables and routing
- Electrical conduits and communication cables
- Water pipes and drainage systems
- Voids, inconsistencies, and internal defects
- Structural elements within concrete
- Embedded anchors, fixings, and fixtures
When Concrete Scanning Should Be Used
Pre-Construction Planning
Identify utilities, reinforcement patterns, and structural elements before excavation or slab penetration.
Renovation and fit-outs
Older buildings often contain undocumented services. Scanning reduces the chance of striking hidden infrastructure.
Core drilling preparation
Verify safe locations before drilling to avoid damaging rebar, tendons, or conduits.
Structural assessments
Confirm rebar configuration, structural integrity, and slab composition.
Insurance and documentation
Provide evidence for damage assessments or compliance requirements.
Safety compliance
Ensure all cutting, coring, and drilling activities meet safety standards.
What's In Your Scan Report
1. Project Details
A summary of the site address, scan date, and scope of work.
2. Scan Methodology
A clear explanation of the equipment used, techniques applied, and any site conditions that may influence the results.
3. Findings
Straightforward, easy-to-read details of what was detected beneath the surface, including:
- Reinforcement layout
- Post-tension cables
- Utilities and conduits
- Voids or anomalies
- Approximate depths and positions
4. Visual Documentation
Photos, GPR data images, and annotated diagrams to help you understand the subsurface conditions.
5. Professional Analysis
Interpretation of all scan data, identification of potential conflicts, and recommendations for safe cutting, coring, or excavation.
6. Summary & Certification
A concise conclusion supported by a signed certification of findings, allowing you to move forward with confidence.
